Staging The Gap

Seven different musicians were commissioned for this project. Each created an audio composition in response to a predetermined set of visual effects. The soundtracks developed ranged from an atonal composition to folk, jazz to ambient. The visual effect themselves were created through the use of an audio track filtered through an electronic circuit. A eight soundtrack play the visual effects source track in reverse.

The work evolved in response to the visual effect that shape our concert going experience – from the plumes of smoke to the stage acrobatics. These effects shape one’s experience and perception of the sound they hear. Staging the Gap flips this relationship on its head, creating a situation in which the audio frames the visual effects.
